It’s crunch time for the Cards. It’s crunch time for fans, too, who are busy crunching away on chips and salsa to help rally the Cardinals to capture a playoff spot. Of course, just not any salsa will due. To help ensure Cardinal victory, take that chip and scoop up the official rally salsa – Matt Carpenter’s Bueno Mojo Salsa, packaged and offered exclusively at Schnucks Markets.

Schnucks Corporate Executive Chef Alex LaZella worked with Matt’s dad, Rick Carpenter to perfect the recipe.

“Rick (Carpenter) was an amazingly congenial guy,” said Chef LaZella, “ It felt like we had been friends for years. I watched him make a batch of the salsa and then I followed by making a batch of my own. It was more like a friend coming by and sharing a recipe over a beer instead of the usual research and development sessions. Of course, the best part was that we got to eat plenty of chips and salsa.”

Chef LaZella and the team who produces and packages the salsa for Schnucks will keep Carpenter’s salsa recipe a secret. And that’s OK, especially if it keeps the Cardinals winning and that it remains on the store shelves

“The salsa is packaged by one of our private brand suppliers, but is considered a Schnucks item and is exclusive to us,” said Paul Simon, Schnucks Markets senior communication’s specialist. “ Starting Thursday, September 13, those wanting to try Matt Carpenter’s Bueno Mojo Salsa can pick up a 16-oz. tub exclusively at the Deli/Prepared Foods area of any St. Louis-area Schnucks store for $6.99.”

A late word from Simon – Schnucks Markets is anticipating a run on the Carpenter’s salsa, which isn’t a big surprise. In an effort to spread the salsa to as many fans as possible customers will be limited to two tubs per purchase.

Just in case you can’t score one of those first tubs of Bueno Mojo Salsa to enjoy at home while watching tonight’s game, I have another idea. Go to the game. Thursday is Salsa Day at Busch Stadium and the giveaway is a Carpenter Salsa T-Shirt to the first 20,000 fans, 16 or older.
