Game Report: Blues 4, Maple Leafs 1

It took longer than he would have liked but Ryan O’Reilly scored his first goal for the Blues on Saturday night, and it could not have come at a better time.

With the Blues’ offense struggling through their first six games – which produced only one win – O’Reilly’s goal capped a three-goal second period which carried the Blues to a 4-1 win over the Maple Leafs in Toronto.

After a scoreless first period, Robert Bortuzzo put the Blues ahead and Zach Sanford increased the lead to 2-0 before O’Reilly scored off a pass from Vladimir Tarasenko.

O’Reilly, acquired in a trade over the summer from Buffalo, has seven points ion the season, which ties him for the team lead with David Perron, who had two assists on Saturday night.

The final Blues’ goal came on a shorthanded goal from Ivan Barbashev late in the third period.

Jake Allen made 22 saves as the Blues limited the Maple Leafs to just 23 shots.

Looking ahead: The Blues will wrap up their three-game Canadian trip on Monday night in Winnipeg.
