Significant expansion to Missouri Baptist University’s Spartan Field is underway to transform the existing space into a permanent competition facility for the football, men’s & women’s soccer, men’s & women’s lacrosse and men’s & women’s track & field programs.
As part of a multi-stage project, Spartan Field originally opened in 2014 as a practice facility in addition to the Fieldhouse that houses football offices, locker rooms and an athletic training space. The facility eventually began hosting competition for men’s & women’s lacrosse in Spring 2018 and men’s & women’s soccer the following fall.
With Phase Two of the project, the current expansion to Spartan Field will include but is not limited to an eight-lane competition-ready track, stadium lights, bleacher seating, a Daktronics scoreboard with video display, women’s locker room, weight room, concession stand, public restrooms and an enhanced entrance plaza.
Sporting a Spurtan BV synthetic surface that is International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) certified, the new, eight-lane track will meet the necessary requirements to host future collegiate, high school and international level track & field competitions. MBU is set to become the only American Midwest Conference (AMC) institution with a track facility.
Other components that will be incorporated into the track & field facility include a long jump and triple jump pit, pole vault pit, high jump pad and adjustable steeplechase hurdles.
Additionally, the walking trail connecting Main Campus to Spartan Field is being revamped with a new bridge and lighted trail offering yet another attractive feature that complements our beautiful campus.
Once complete, the sports complex will rank among the top facilities in the NAIA and greater St. Louis area. Phase Two construction, which is being carried out by Holland Construction Services, is scheduled for completion in January 2020.
