LEADOFF QUICK HITTERS

SUNDAY, MAY 22,  2022

Matthew Liberatore fell one out shy of qualifying for the win in his major-league debut on Saturday night but the Cardinals picked up the 5-4 win over the Pirates in Pittsburgh. A two-run inside-the-park homer by Bryan Reynolds in the fifth helped knock Liberatore out of the game.

Paul Goldschmidst had four hits, including two more doubles, and drove in two runs as the Cardinals scored four times in the second inning. Goldschmidt has a 14-game hitting streak and has reached base safely in his last 28 games.

Today's game has the unusual starting time of 10:35 a.m. St. Louis time and will be televised on the Peacock Network. Steven Matz is the scheduled starter.
