The Missouri Tigers earned two victories on Saturday, although only one will show up on the scoreboard.
The Tigers pounded Troy 42-10, but perhaps almost as importantly, apparently survived an injury scare to quarterback Kelly Bryant.
Bryant was hit from behind on his left leg while delivering a pass late in the second quarter, injuring his knee. After spending several minutes on the ground, he was able to walk to the sideline under his own power but did not return to the field for the second half.
Coach Barry Odom said Bryant was being examined by the team’s medical personnel, but at least the initial diagnosis was that the injury did not appear to be as serious as it first appeared.
‘He (Bryant) was in great spirits,” Odom said. “Our docs seemed like it was good news but I don’t want to go there until it’s confirmed.”
Bryant was injured while completing a six-yard touchdown pass, his third of the game. He also ran three yards for another score as the Tigers roared to a 42-7 halftime lead.
Bryant completed 12 of 19 passes for 221 yards.
The Tigers, who pulled almost all of their starters for the second half, also got an interception return for a touchdown from Cale Garrett, one of his two interceptions in the game. Garrett has scored a touchdown in each of the last three games.
The win raised Missouri’s record to 4-1 as they completed the non-conference portion of their schedule. Missouri has scored at least 31 points in each of its five games this season, part of a streak of 10 consecutive games scoring at least 31 points that dates back to Oct. 27 of last year.
Missouri will host Mississippi next Saturday in Columbia.
