Zach Sanford had the best game of his career on Thursday night but it wasn’t enough for the Blues to get a win in Las Vegas.
Sanford scored four goals, the first Blues player to do so since David Backes on Jan. 6, 2015, but the Blues lost 6-5 to the Golden Knights on a power-play goal in overtime.
Sanford had never scored more than two goals in a game before and had scored eight goals in 43 games this season prior to Thursday night.
His fourth goal came at 11:45 of the third period and put the Blues ahead 5-4 but the Golden Knights responded with the game-tying goal three minutes later to send the game to overtime.
The Blues took a 4-2 lead early in the second period on Sanford’s third goal by the Golden Knights came back to tie the game early in the third period.
Jordan Binnington allowed the six goals on 52 shots as the Knights out-shot the Blues 52-24.
It was the 10th consecutive game in which the Blues allowed three or more goals and it was the seventh time in those 10 games that they allowed four or more goals.
Binnington has allowed at least three goals in his last nine games.
The Blues, who have lost eight of their last 10 games, return home on Saturday to host the Nashville Predators.
