Game Report: Blues 2, Blackhawks 0

Playing in Chicago seems to bring out the best in Jake Allen.

Allen got his second start this season on the road against the Blackhawks on Sunday night, and the result was the same as in his first game back on Dec. 2 – a shutout.

Allen stopped all 29 shots by the Blackhawks. The two shutouts in Chicago are Allen’s only two shutouts of the season. It was the 21srt shutout of his career, moving into second place for the most career shutouts in franchise history, four shutouts behind Brian Elliott.

The win allowed the Blues to finish 4-0 against the Blackhawks this season, sweeping the season series for the first time in team history.

The game was scoreless until Robert Bortuzzo scored early in the second period, and Allen was able to preserve the 1-0 lead until Alex Pietrangelo added an insurance goal early in the third period.

The win was the ninth in the last 10 games by the Blues, who had an eight-game winning streak snapped on Friday night by the Devils in New Jersey.

The Blues will host the Florida Panthers on Monday night at Enterprise Center.
