Moms throughout Cardinal Nation will be celebrating Mother’s Day a little different this year.
The Mother’s Day ballgame that had been scheduled with the New York Mets is canceled. Like so many events, benched by Covid-19. But that’s no reason the game can’t go. Tune in and catch a broadcast replay.
Better yet, entertain mom with a game of catch or a backyard ballgame with the kids or grandkids. Afterwards, don’t forget to treat Mom to something sweet. Here’s a few suggestions
Companion (companionbaking.com) has a few ideas to treat mom to breakfast in bed, lunch or dessert. On the menu for curbside take-out are breakfast items as their famous baked eggs to signature pastries. The stand out on Companion’s Mother’s Day menu is the Blessings Basket filled with baked goodies. These fair trade baskets are made by hand by women of the Ten by Three Project, who work to help end poverty for themselves and families.
Treat mom to cake, cookies and ice cream. Time Brennan, the bakery maven and a James Beard Best Dessert in the Midwest winner and owner of Cravings always has a special treat s from in the case. Consider treating mom to the German Chocolate Cake or Cravings Blueberry Crumb Bars.
Pair it with a pint of one of Clementine’s new botanicals flavored ice creams as Honeysuckle Buttermilk, Orange Blossom and Fresh Thyme and White Chocolate Geranium, Consider it an editable bouquet for mom.
Finally, to make Mother’s Day a little more sweet, consider treating mom to a taste of honey. Make her something special using the latest local culinary find, fermented honey sauces. A delightfully unique sweet taste to enliven savory dishes, which the New York Times has called the chef’s and home cook’s latest secret weapon. That weapon was created by Anya Corson. Who founded of Anya’s Apothekere (anyasapothekere.com). To date, Anya makes three unique flavor combinations, including Fermented Onion Honey. A flavor that makes a super vinaigrette, which Anya has shared the recipe to try. A great addition to that Mother’s Day dinner. The company also makes botanical bath salts and bone soaks. Another treat for mom that can provide a little extra TLC and a little R&R mom so richly deserves.
