How to make Pumpkin Spice Latte at home

By Becky Hardin

Pumpkin Spiced Latte season has begun and the experts have revealed how to make your own for nearly a third of the price of Starbucks.

The recipe experts at The Cookie Rookie have investigated how much it would cost to make a PSL using products from Target and shared the best recipe to make the iconic drink at home.

Prices vary across the country but you can typically expect to pay about $5.95* for a grande (medium) Pumpkin Spiced Latte at Starbucks, but making the cozy drink at home will cost just $2.06, a whopping 65% less!

I am the founder and recipe developer at The Cookie Rookie and I have outlined how to make the perfect Pumpkin Spiced Latte at home:

  1. Make The Espresso

Make your espresso according to the directions on the package. You can also make this pumpkin latte with chai instead of espresso or use decaf coffee or espresso if you want a caffeine-free version.

  1. Create The Pumpkin Sauce

Prepare your sauce by combining pumpkin puree, sugar, water, pumpkin pie spice, vanilla and ginger in a small saucepan. Simmer over medium heat for 10 minutes.

  1. Heat Up Your Chosen Milk

For the milk, pour ½ cup of your chosen milk (dairy or non-dairy alternative) into a microwavable jar, screw the lid on tight and shake shake shake! In about 30 seconds your milk will be frothy and doubled in size. Remove the lid and place in the microwave for 30 seconds to warm the milk and set the froth. Keep an eye out for overflow while heating.

  1. Mix Together

To complete, add one tablespoon of pumpkin sauce and espresso into your favorite mug and mix until combined. Add frothed milk and gently swirl.

  1. Relax & Enjoy Your Pumpkin Spiced Latte

Don’t forget to top with whipped topping, a sprinkle of nutmeg and serve in a large mug for the ultimate autumnal coziness. Refrigerate unused pumpkin sauce in an airtight container for your next Copycat Pumpkin Spice Latte.
