Sunday last home game for the 2025 Cardinals; fans honored John Mozeliak, Nolan Arenado

Sunday’s game agains the Brewers at Busch is the last regular season game the team will play. until Opening Day of 2026

The give-away for the day was a Cardinals flannel shirt.

Before the game, President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak was honored with a video and a first pitch.

He was on the field with his family and fans showed their appreciation. He then took the mound and threw out the first pitch.

The video showed highlights of his long career.

Mozeliak was named President of Baseball Operations on June 30, 2017, the first to be named to that position in franchise history. Mozeliak had served as the team’s Senior Vice President and General Manager for almost 10 full seasons, since October, 2007. He was the 12th general manager of the St. Louis Cardinals, and had previously held the position of Assistant General Manager for six seasons. His contract runs through the 2025 season and Chaim Bloom is set to take over after that.

Despite the trying past two years, under Mozeliak, the Cardinals have reached the postseason 10 times (2009, 2011-2015, 2019-2022), including a franchise record of five-straight seasons from 2011-15. During that run, the Cardinals won three-straight National League Central Division titles (2013-2015), and have won six N.L. Central Titles overall (also 2009, 2019, and 2022) under Mo’s leadership. The five-year postseason run began with St. Louis’ 11th World Championship in 2011.

Another Cardinal who got his moment in the sun was third baseman Nolan Arenado, who may have played his last game as a Cardinals at Busch Stadium.

He was not listed in the original starting lineup but then shortly before gametime the lineup was changed and he came out. Before the game, Oli came out to talk to pitcher Matthew Lilberatore and he called in Arenado.

Shortly after that Arenado walked off the field to many cheers from the fans. He waved to everyone as he went to the dugout and the fans gave him a standing ovation.
