Tuesday’s Game Report: Cardinals 3, Reds 0

Masyn Winn celebrated the third anniversary of his major-league debut on Tuesday night in style.
Winn homered and doubled twice, scoring a pair of runs, to lead the Cardinals to a win over the Reds in Cincinnati. It was the first game in his career with three extra-base hits.
Until a seventh-inning double by Jose Fermin, following Winn’s second double, Winn had all three of the Cardinals’ hits.
Those hits included a home run in the fifth, his fifth of the season, and first since July 3.
Since snapping an 0-of-18 streak in the first game of Monday’s doubleheader, Winn has five hits in nine at-bats, also drawing a walk.
The home run was the only run that starter Kyle Leahy and four relievers needed as they combined on a three-hit shutout.
Here is how Tuesday night’s game broke down:
At the plate: Winn’s double in the second was the only hit for the Cardinals until his home run in the fifth … He doubled again with one out in the seventh, followed by Fermin’s double … The Cardinals added an insurance run in the eighth. Jordan Walker beat out an infield hit, went to third on a double by Alec Burleson and scored on a sacrifice fly by Joshua Baez, who has not had a hit since his three-homer debut on Saturday.
On the mound: Leahy allowed just three hits, did not walk a batter and struck out six in his five innings. It was Leahy’s 10th consecutive start giving up two or fewer runs, a streak that began on June 23. It was the fourth time during the streak that he did not allow a run … He has not walked a batter in his last 18 innings … The Reds had only one baserunner in the final four innings against the bullpen, a leadoff walk in the seventh allowed by Gordon Graceffo … Riley O’Brien earned his 32nd save.
Key stat: The double by Burleson was his league-leading 33rd of the season. He also leads the league with 92 RBIs. The last player to lead the NL in both doubles and RBIs in the same season was Todd Helton of the Rockies in 2000.
Worth noting: Trevor Condon, the Cardinals’ top pick in the amateur draft in July, made his professional debut on Tuesday night, starting in center field and hitting second for the low Class A Palm Beach Cardinals. Condon had a double and single in five at-bats and also had a stolen base.
Up next: Matthew Liberatore will get the start on Wednesday night in the fourth game of the five-game series.
