LEADOFF QUICK HITTERS

THURSDAY, JUNE 8, 2023

Alec Burleson's homer with two outs in the eighth inning broke up a scoreless duel and gave the Cardinals a 1-0 win over the Rangers on Wednesday night in Texas, snapping their five-game losing streak. Prior to the homer Jon Gray had allowed only two hits to the Cardinals and finished with the rare complete-game loss, striking out 12.

Jack Flaherty worked six innings, pitching around five walks, before Jordan Hicks, Giovanny Gallegos and Ryan Helsley combined to finish off the shutout of the Rangers, the top-scoring team in the majors.

After today's day off, the Cardinals will host the Reds this weekend at Busch Stadium.
