Gene Gieselmann named to Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Hall of Fame

Former Cardinals trainer Gene Gieselmann is among nine  men who have been inducted into the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS) Hall of Fame will now have their plaques displayed in Baseball’s Cooperstown Hall of Fame in NY.

This award will be dispalyed at the Cooperstown Hall of Fame. The PBATS website said: “What an honor to hang the PBATS Hall of Fame plaque in the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum Giamatti Research Center. A huge thank you to everyone at the Hall of Fame for making this day so special and honoring PBATS in such an amazing and historical place.”

Gieselmann, who grew up in Linsborg, Kansas, started his career as a student athletic trainer in high school, went to Wichita State, and was hired by the Cardinals in 1968 right out of college, starting at the Cardinals Class A team which was in St. Petersburg. He quickly moved up, getting promoted to assistant trainer for the Cardinals’ parent club in 1969 and then named head trainer in 1971.

He had a very successful 29 years with the Cardinals, and was part of three National League pennants and a World Series Championship.

He has been inducted into the St. Louis Hall of Fame, the MIssouri Sports Hall of Fame, the PBATS Hall of Fame.

“Now on to Cooperstown,” said his wife Roseanna. “I’m so proud of him. Congratulations to his eight other colleagues going in with him.”
