Our Springfield Event was a lot of fun; videos and photos from the event

We had a great time with all the Cardinals fans at our Springfield party this week.

We “took our show on the road” and it was great to get to celebrate some of the best of Springfield, Missouri with the cashew chicken from Leong’s Asian Diner; 102.1 The Won Radio hosts Scott Puryear and Ned Reynolds, the Springfield Cardinals and of course the fans who came.

The fans loved hearing from them. We were excited to announce our partnership with 102.1 The Won. We want to give a huge shout-out and thank you to Chef Wing Yee Leong and Leong’s Asian Diner for hosting our STL Sports Page Party. Wing & staff went overboard with great food. They are known for their Cashew Chicken and they served “Cashew Chicken Skewers”– same thing except on a stick. He had many choices on the buffet, including the Crab Rangoon Pizza (shown in one of the photos)– and the big surprise was the warm blueberry cobbler. Leong’s Asian Diner is a great place to go if you visit Springfield.

Rob talked to Wing bout recently being featured on the Today Show in regards to the kickoff to the 100th Anniversary of Route 66.

With our special event in Springfield we definitely “got by with little help from our friends.” —Mark Harrell did the videography.

Mark is a long-time friend of Rob Rains and he is a professional videographer. Years ago he was the photographer for the Springfield Cardinals. He wrote a book, “From Darkroom to Dugout” with many of his pictures from those day. For information on his book, CLICK HERE.

Sara Hyde, Clair Ross , and Abba Korosic pitched in to help with the event.

The photo, left shows  Chuck and Abba Korosic with Chef Wing Yee Leong and Clair Ross. They are all long-time Springfield residents and all Springfield natives know about cashew chicken and to them, Wing is a celebrity as much as anyone else in Springfield.

His family are the ones who started it and specifically, it was his father who came up with the recipe.

One of the great things about the party was being able to see all the Cardinals fans. The photo, right shows Ellen Hartmann (in the red shirt) with her friend Terry Kimmel talking to Chef Wing. Leong’s was a sponsor with the Springfield Cardinals of their special jersey– like the City Connect jerseys in St. Louis– called the Cashew Chickens. Leong’s Asian Diner sponsored the Cashew Chickens alternate jerseys. On the nights they wear their alternate jerseys cashew chicken is available at the ballpark.

They have added an additional alternate jersey: the Ozark Snipe Hunters, but no one will forget the Springfield Cashew Chickens.

Rob Rains was raised in Springfield so when he goes there, he is going home. He was so happy to see so many members of his class at Kickapoo High School who came out:
