At the press conference wrapping up another disappointing season for the Cardinals, John Mozeliak said he could not rule out the possibility that there would be changes to the major-league coaching staff.
On Friday, it was reported by Katie Woo of The Athletic that the team will not retain hitting coach Turner Ward, one of several coaches on the staff whose contract is expiring this season.
The team has not confirmed the move or the status of any of the team’s other coaches.
The Cardinals’ offense struggled this season, particularly with runners in scoring position, ranking near the bottom of the major-leagues.
Ward was hired by the Cardinals as an assistant hitting coach in 2022 and promoted to the hitting coach position before the 2023 season. He previously was a hitting coach with the Reds, Dodgers and Diamondbacks as well as a minor-league manager and hitting coach.
