After 14 seasons in the Major Leagues, including 12 with the St. Louis Cardinals, Matt Carpenter announced his retirement this week. The Cardinals announced it Wednesday morning with the above congratulatory photo.
Carpenter was drafted by the Cardinals in the 13th round of the 2009 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas.
Carpenter made the announcement on the Sports Spectrum podcast with Scott Linebrink. He told Linebrink: “I was very fortunate enough to play for some great organizations, and had quite a thrill being able to don the St. Louis Cardinals logo for many years, a brief stint with the New York Yankees, and also the San Diego Padres.”
