January 7 is National Bobblehead Day and in honor of that, Saint Louis University has a new bobblehead released by the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame.
The bobbleheads will be available in their Online Store at the following link.
- The bobbleheads, which recently arrived and ships now, will be available in the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum’s Online Store at this link.
- Each bobblehead is individually numbered to only 2,025.
- The bobbleheads are $35 plus an $8 flat-rate shipping charge per order.
- The officially licensed bobbleheads were produced by the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum.
- Saint Louis University is the only university to claim the Billiken as its mascot. An early SLU football coach, John R. Bender, is said to have been the inspiration for the nickname. During the 1911 season, local sportswriters commented that Bender bore an uncanny resemblance to a charm doll called a Billiken, which was a national fad at the time. His squad became known as “Bender’s Billikens” and the name stuck. The Billiken is a mythical good-luck figure who represents “things as they ought to be.” Florence Pretz, a Missouri art teacher and illustrator, patented her design for an image of the Billiken in 1908. SLU’s mascot has undergone a few physical changes over the years, with its latest update in 2015. For more than 100 years, the Billiken has brought luck to Saint Louis University’s sports teams and smiles to the faces of SLU fans.

- The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, which is located at 170 S. 1st. St. in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, opened to the public on February 1st, 2019.
