March is Women’s History Month and the Bellefontaine Cemetery and Arboretum has a unique way of honoring some special women. Bellefontaine Cemetery and Arboretum is the final resting place of several strong, inspirational women who have impacted history as we know it.
The list of famous women who are buried in Bellefontaine Cemetery includes a Nobel prize-winning scientist (Gerty Cori), a Pulitzer-prize-winning poet (Sara Teasdale), an Olympic gold medalist (Martha N. Brown), an author of one of the world’s most widely read cookbooks (Irma Rombauer), a survivor of the Titanic (Elisabeth W. Robert), the “Mother of Kindergarten” (Susan Blow), and generations of women like Virginia Minor and Phoebe Couzins who fought tirelessly for equality.
In rememberance of these women, Bellefonatine Cemetery and Arboretum is having upcoming trolley tours. Their guides will lead a two-hour tour, telling stories of intriguing figures in Women’s History while showing highlights of the Cemetery grounds and monuments.
Seating is limited and tickets are required. Trolley tour tickets are free with a suggested gift of $5 each to the Friends of Bellefontaine. You may also make a gift at the event.
How to get tickets:
Your donations allow us to cover trolley expenses. Proceeds support the Friends of Bellefontaine and benefit the Cemetery’s community support programs like Angels Rest, historic preservation, and educational tours.
