LEADOFF QUICK HITTERS

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 9, 2026

Quinn Mathews gave up a home run with two outs in the first and second inning Tuesday night and that was all of the runs the Giants needed to defeat the Cardinals 2-1 on Tuesday night in San Francisco. The Cardinals scored their only run in the ninth inning but left the would-be tying run on second base.

They fell to six games out of the third wild card spot with 16 games left in the regular season.

Andre Pallante will get the start today as the Cardinals try to salvage the final game of the series, which also wraps up their nine-game road trip.
