LEADOFF QUICK HITTERS

FRIDAY, MARCH 27, 2026

JJ Wetherholt homered in his major-league debut and the Cardinals scored eight runs in the sixth inning, after giving up six in top of the inning, to claim a 9-7 win over Tampa Bay in Thursday's opening-day game at Busch Stadium. Wetherholt had a sacrifice fly in the inning, which was capped by a two-run homer by Alec Burleson.

Wetherholt became the first Cardinal to homer his debut, on opening day, for the Cardinals since Bobby Smith in 1957.

The Cardinals will have the day off today before the three-game series resumes on Saturday.
