LEADOFF QUICK HITTERS

FRIDAY, MAY 15, 2026

Down to their final strike, the Cardinals rallied for two runs in the ninth inning on Thursday to defeat the Athletics 5-4 in Sacramento. JJ Wetherholt was hit by a pitch to keep the inning alive, then a single by Ivan Herrera tied the game and Jordan Walker's double drove in the go-ahead run. Riley O'Brien closed out the win in the bottom of the ninth.

Earlier, Walker hit his 12th homer and also robbed a home run. Victor Scott II also hit a home run. Michael McGreevy allowed one run over six innings but was pulled after throwing only 74 pitches and the Athletics scored three times in the seventh to take the ead.

The Cardinals return home tonight to open a series against the Royals at Busch Stadium. Dustin May will get the start.
