Drew Lock passed for three touchdowns and led Mssouri to a 38-17 win over 13th-ranked Florida on Saturday in Gainesville, Fla., which accomplished both a long-term and short-term goals for the Tigers.
It was Missouri’s first win over a ranked opponent since they won at South Carolina in 2014, before Lock became the starting quarterback and before Barry Odom became the head coach.
It also wiped away the lingering heartbreak from a last-play loss against Kentucky a week ago, which left doubt about how the Tigers would respond against the Gators.
It didn’t take long to get the answer, as Lock led the Tigers to a 21-10 halftime lead, then put the game away with two more touchdowns in the third quarter.
Lock completed touchdown passes to Albert Okwuegbunam, Kam Scott and Emanual Hall – playing for the first time in four games – as he completed 24 of 32 passes for 250 yards with no interceptions.
The Tigers also got rushing touchdowns from Larry Rountree III and Damarea Crockett, who led the team with 114 yards on 21 carries.
Hall, who had been out with a groin injury and because of the death of his father, finished with four catches for 77 yards. Lock completed passes to 10 receivers.
Okwuegbunam had to leave the game because of a bruised right shoulder.
Missouri won its first SEC game this season and is now 5-4 overall and 1-4 in the conference with three games remaining. Missouri hosts Vanderbilt next Saturday.
