How do you get at-risk St. Louis youth who’ve never set foot on a golf course or held a club interested in playing the game? You call on Marvel Universe and the United States Golf Association (USGA).
The Golf Foundation of Missouri recently benefited from the support of the USGA by receiving copies of the all new USGA Marvel Junior Golf Guide. The comic features many of Marvel’s most popular Avengers Super Heroes as they play the inaugural round at the fictional Stark Golf Club and teach juniors the basics of playing the game – including etiquette, rules and handicap. The comic unfolds into a poster where lessons on how to handle different scenarios on the course are further brought to life by the Super Heroes.
The guides were distributed during the final week of the foundation’s six-week camp whose participants included youth ages 8-18 from throughout the St. Louis region of varying backgrounds and skill sets. The camp, which is taught by certified PGA of America instructors and takes place at The Highlands Golf Course in Forest Park, hopes to not only cultivate a love for the game amongst local youth, but use golf as a vehicle for individual growth as well.
