Perron’s hat trick leads Blues to win over Avalanche that increases lead in Western Conference

This season could not be going any better for the Blues’ David Perron.

Perron completed the fifth hat trick of his NHL career on Monday night  to lead the Blues to a 5-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche at Enterprise Center.

The three goals gave Perron a team-leading 15 goals this season and the win increased the Blues’ lead over the Avalanche to three points in the battle for the top spot in the Western Conference.

Perron scored the first goal of the game with 1:09 left in the first period, added a power-play goal in the second period and finished off his night with an empty net goal in the closing minute after Colorado pulled its goalie for an extra attacker.

The Blues other goals came from Vince Dunn and Jordan Kyrou, who scored his first goal of the season after recently being recalled from the minor leagues.

Perron’s second goal tied the game at 2-2 before Dunn scored just 36 seconds later to put the Blues in front 3-2 with just 37 seconds left in the second period.

The Blues, who have won the first three games on their current homestand, will host the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday night before going on the road for a pre-Christmas trip to San Jose and Los Angeles.
