Jake Allen stars as Blues shut down Oilers for fourth consecutive win

Jake Allen made a rare home start on Wednesday night and took full advantage of the opportunity.

Allen made 35 saves as the Blues defeated the Edmonton Oilers 2-1 at Enterprise Center to extend their winning streak to four games.

Allen was making only his third start at home this season in place of Jordan Binnington and earned his first win at Enterprise Center since Jan. 3 of last season. He did not start a game at home last year after Jan. 8 as Binnington took over as the regular goalie and led the Blues to the Stanley Cup.

The only goal by the Oilers came with 1:50 seconds left in the game and Allen was able to preserve the lead after Edmonton pulled its goalie for an extra attacker in the closing minute.

The Blues had taken a 2-0 lead on goals by Brayden Schenn in the second period and Mackenzie MacEachern earlier in the third period.

The Blues now go on the road for two games before the Christmas break, playing in San Jose on Saturday night and in Los Angeles on Monday night.
