Virus or not– the 34th Annual Wash-U Scholar-Champion Awards will go on(line)

The Washington University in St. Louis Department of Athletics has announced a virtual awards celebration, scheduled for Monday, April 27at 7 p.m. (CT).

The awards celebration will recognize student-athletes for academic achievement and for outstanding contributions to the Department of Athletics’ mission, Building Community, Developing Champions, and Impacting Lives.

“We look forward to bringing our Bear Family together on April 27th to highlight the many achievements of our Scholar-Champions and athletic teams,” said Director of Athletics, Anthony J. Azama. “While this event will seem a bit different than in years’ past, the intentionality remains the same to connect with our Scholar-Champions while simultaneously celebrating their good works.”

The 34th Annual Scholar-Champion Awards Celebration will be streamed from the WashU Bears YouTube channel  on April 27 with a premiere video link. Viewers will select the link to access the celebration.

Scholar-Champions will receive awards under the categories of Building Community, Developing Champions, and Impacting Lives. In addition, the following three awards will be announced:

Chancellor’s Award (Male or Female)

The Chancellor’s Award for Student-Athlete Excellence was created in 2019 to recognize the student-athlete who has best demonstrated, and been recognized for, academic achievement, school and community leadership, and athletic performance.

Nancy Fahey Leadership Award (Female)

An award was created in 2018 in former women’s basketball coach Nancy Fahey’s name to be presented annually to a female student-athlete who demonstrates the attitude, character, and leadership qualities embodied by Coach Fahey.

Mark Edwards Leadership Award (Male)

An award was created in former men’s basketball coach Mark Edwards’ name in 2019 to be presented annually to a male student-athlete who demonstrates the attitude, character, and leadership qualities embodied by Coach Edwards.

The evening will also include comments from campus leadership, season recap videos, and a special feature to conclude the celebration.
