
Top pitching prospects Matthew Liberatore and Zack Thompson headline the 21 Cardinals players tentatively assigned to the alternate camp roster for the start of the season.
The Cardinals camp at GCS Credit Union Ballpark in Sauget, Ill., is scheduled to open next week. The ballpark is the home stadium of the Gateway Grizzlies. The camp is expected to run for about a month, before the minor league seasons begin in early May.
In addition to the 21 players, the Cardinals have a five-player taxi squad traveling with the major-league team to Cincinnati and Miami for the season’s first six games. Those players also are expected to join the alternate camp roster when the Cardinals return for the home opener on April 8.
The players assigned to the Sauget roster:
Pitchers – Jesus Cruz, Junior Fernandez, Connor Jones, Evan Kruczynski, Matthew Liberatore, Johan Oviedo, Tommy Parsons, Johan Quezada, Roel Ramirez, Angel Rondon, Zack Thompson, Austin Warner, Garrett Williams.
Catchers – Tyler Heineman, Dennis Ortega
Infielders – Evan Mendoza, Max Moroff, Kramer Robertson
Outfielders – Conner Capel, Scott Hurst, Lars Nootbaar
