Cardinals officially name Schumaker bench coach, add Turner Ward to staff

The Cardinals officially named Skip Schumaker their new bench coach on Monday and added Turner Ward to the staff as the assistant hitting coach.

The rest of the coaching staff for 2022 is returning to the same jobs they held this season.

Schumaker had served as the associate manager of the Padres for the last two seasons but returns to the team where he spent the majority of his playing career.

Ward had previously worked as a hitting coach for the Diamondbacks, Dodgers and Reds. Ward played in the majors for 12 years and also worked for eight seasons in the Diamondbacks farm system. One of his jobs was as the Double A manager when Paul Goldschmidt was on that team.

Returning coaches are pitching coach Mike Maddux, hitting coach Jeff Albert, third base coach Pop Warner, first base coach Stubby Clapp, bullpen coach Bryan Eversgerd and special coach Willie McGee.
