Nelson Velazquez hit a two-run homer in the first inning and Michael McGreevy allowed one run over five innings as the Cardinals defeated the Mets 3-1 on Thursday in Jupiter. Nolan Gorman had a double and triple and drew a walk in his three plate appearances.

Kyle Leahy will get the start when the Cardinals play their only home night game of the spring tonight, hosting the Astros.
