St. Louis City SC Soccer team has historic home debut Saturday: What you should know

Compiled by Staff

This is primarily a baseball website, but the excitement of the new St Louis City SC team’s inaugural home game is definitely worth promoting.

All of the hoopla surrounding the new team and new downtown stadium, CITYPARK, built just for them comes to a crescendo Saturday night March 4, with the first home match against Charlotte FC  at 7:30pm central time.

St. Louis City SC won their first ever game—an away game in Austin, Texas on Feb. 25. The answer to a future trivia question about who scored the first goal in franchise history is Tim Parker.

Another first was the first team signing from the club’s MLS NEXT Pro side St Louis CITY2 , Thursday, with the signing of goalkeeper St. Louis native, Michael Creek—who played soccer at Lindbergh High School and Missouri State University– to an MLS contract through 2023, with a club option for 2024.

“We are so excited for Michael,” said Eric Cochran, Lindbergh High School Principal. “He was a great high school keeper and he was an even better young man!”

“Michael will add depth and support to our goalkeeping unit, said St. Louis CITY SC Sporting Director, Lutz Pfannenstiel. “We’re excited to have him here with us in the first team.”

Creek, who is the son of Richard and Patricia Creek, and brother to Emily Creek, appeared in 14 matches and made 13 starts for CITY2 last season.

He joined CITY2 after an impressive collegiate career at MSU in which he totaled 149 saves and 27 shutouts over four seasons with the Bears. Creek was named Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Goalkeeper of the Year in 2019 and received All-MVC honors in three of his seasons at MSU. At Lindbergh High School, he was a three-time All-Conference honoree, recording five straight shutouts, leading to the District Finals in his senior season.

Block Party and Where to Watch the Game

St. Louis will be rocking both in the area of the stadium– and bars all over town. Check your favorite bar to find out if they will have the game on. Ballpark Village will be showing it, Sybergs will be another hot spot for those heading downtown but do not have a ticket.
