Manny Machado hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning off Matthew Liberatore, his second homer of the game, to give the Padres a 4-2 win over the Cardinals on Friday night in San Diego. The loss dropped the Cardinals to a season-low 20 games under .500 at 67-87 with eight games left in the season.

Nolan Arenado joined Willson Contreras on the injured list on Friday, ending their seasons. Arenado is suffered from spasms in his lower back.

Jake Woodford will get the start tonight in the second game of the series.
