New book introduces Stan Musial to the younger crowd

From Press Release

Cardinals fans hear the name Stan Musial and immediately think of baseball greatness. But many young fans do not know about Stan the Man and his legacy of sportsmanship, honor, and excellence. Stan Musial: From Donora, PA, to St. Louis, MO, and the Big Leagues, by Stephanie Bearce is written for middle-grade readers (ages 8-12) with a readability level of grade four.

“I love connecting kids to history,” said Stephanie Bearce, a children’s book author who has done 35 nonfiction books for children. “As a resident of St. Louis, I am of course a Cardinals fan, and I was thrilled to write about the greatest Cardinal of all time. What an honor to research Stan and write about his life.”

This highly illustrated book guides young readers from Stan Musial’s days as a child in a coal mining town hitting rag balls with broomsticks to becoming the face of the Cardinals franchise.

Growing up in the coal fields of Donora, Pennsylvania, Stan was determined to overcome poverty and make it to the big leagues. When a debilitating injury stopped his pitching career, Stan didn’t give up. He became one of the greatest and most consistent hitters in the history of the game and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

His practice, perseverance, and positive attitude have made his story one of American triumph. This book introduces a whole new generation to the gentleman athlete who was known for his kindness and honesty. Young readers will be inspired to be like Stan and work hard to achieve their dreams.

Stan’s life intersected with important moments in history such as The Great Depression, WWI, the integration of major leagues, and the election of Jon F. Kennedy. Readers will discover history as they learn about Cardinal baseball and the famous Number Six.

Author Stephanie Bearce has created two special programs that will help children appreciate not only Stan’s place in baseball history but his legacy of exemplary character and his historical context.

These programs are available to schools, libraries, or any organization that works with children.

The programs are: S.T.A.N.D. with Stan – Character Education Program, and Stan Musial and the Daring Days of Baseball.

Stan Musial: From Donora, PA, to St. Louis, MO, and the Big Leagues is available wherever books are sold.
