In the Prospects Spring Breakout game, Quinn Mathews worked three scoreless innings and Cooper Hjerpe tossed two shutout innings in another 3-3 tie, against the Marlins prospects in Jupiter.
The game was touted as a showcase for the prospects but there were also some other minor leaguers who played.
As far as hitting– with no outs in the sixth inning and the Marlins leading 3-0 it looked like the Cardinals were going to make a move as Zach Levenson walked, J.J. Wetherholt the Cardinals top prospect got hit by a pitch and Saggese got a hit t to load the bases.
Catcher Ryan Campos got the RBI which put the Cardinals on the board 3-1, but that was all the Cardinals prospect team could muster as Travis Honeyman, who only played in 20 games for Palm Beach last year due to injury, hit into a double play, ending the inning.
Nathan Church, who was ranked as the best defensive outfielder along with having the best outfield arm in the Cardinals organization by Baseball America also made a good play in the field. From centerfield, he threw out a player at home plate. (Photo courtesy St. Louis Cardinals through Cardinals Player Development)Roster for Breakout Game-
