This article is an update on the prospects at the low Class A Palm Beach Cardinals and the rookie level Complex League Cardinals.
Gary Kendall, the manager of the Palm Beach Cardinals also talked about the renovations of Roger Dean Stadium. Check back for that article.
Last year, (2024) Kendall won the George Kissell Award for excellence in player development. He is shown in the photo with Cardinals President of Baseball Operations, John Mozeliak after the team won the Florida State League championship.
Kendall has managed 59 players who contributed to Palm Beach’s franchise-best 83-47 record, tops among any full season affiliate in the minors en route to the club’s third Florida State League championship.
It’s always fun to see former players who are now scouts, and this week while we were in Jupiter we ran into Tyler Greene, who is scouting for the Yankees. .
While we were in Palm Beach Rob Rains was working on a story on catcher Rainiel Rodriguez, #41 in the photo, right, who was promoted to the level despite being only 18 years old. That story will be posted within the next few days.
Even though he spent some time living in Philadelphia, Rodriguez returned to his native Dominican Republic when he was 17 and signed with the Cardinals as an international free agent when he was 17.
If he had remained in the U.S. he would have been eligible for this year’s draft.
Lefthanded pitcher Braden Davis, (shown in photo, left) pitched one of the nights we were there, and he was throwing to Rodriguez, shown in the photo, above. Davis was named the Florida State League Pitcher of the Week for the week of June 10-15 2025.
Davis is in his first season with the Cardinals organization after being drafted in the 5th round last year out of Oklahoma. e looks like he has a promising future. We got to see him pitch three hit-less innings but his outing was interrupted by a brief rainstorm so they ended up taking him out after the rain.
Other players to watch at Palm Beach include right-handed pitchers Leonel Sequera, just 19, Nolan Sparks and Brandt Thompson, who both were selected in last year’s draft. Position players include third baseman Deniel Ortiz, who leads the team with seven homers, infielder Jonathan Mejia and outfielders Luis Pino and Yordalin Pena/
At the Complex League level, the top prospects are 17-year-old shortstop Yairo Padilla and right-handed pitcher Keiverson Ramirez.
