LEADOFF QUICK HITTERS

TUESDAY, MARCH 24, 2026 

JJ Wetherholt was told Monday that he has made the Cardinals opening-day roster will be make his major-league debut in Thursday's opener against Tampa Bay at Busch Stadium. He will wear uniform number 26. The Cardinals will have to make a move to open a spot on the 40-man roster for Wetherholt before the game.

The player who led the team in spring training with four homers and 10 RBIs, Nelson Velazquez, was told that he will begin the season at Memphis. He had been in camp as a non-roster player.

In their exhibition game in Springfield, the Cardinals won 3-2 getting a two-run homer from Alec Burleson. Dustin May worked four scoreless innings.
