LEADOFF QUICK HITTERS

MONDAY, MAY 23,  2022

All 10 Cardinals who had an at-bat on Sunday had at least one hit, drove in at least one run and scored at least one run - the first time that has happened in franchise history - in an 18-4 win over the Pirates in Pittsburgh that completed a sweep of the three-game series. Albert Pujols didn't start but hit two homers while Yadier Molina made his first career pitching appearance in the ninth inning with the Cardinals leading 18-0. Molina gave up two homers and four runs.

Starting pitcher Steven Matz had to leave the game after throwing only four pitches with what was described as stiffness in his left shoulder. He is scheduled to be re-examined today following the team's return to St. Louis. Angel Rondon relieved and pitched five scoreless innings to earn his first career victory.

Miles Mikolas will get the start tonight when the Cardinals open a quick two-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays.
