LEADOFF QUICK HITTERS

FRIDAY, MAY 1, 2026

JJ Wetherholt led off the game with a home run off Paul Skenes and the Cardinals went on to beat the Pirates 10-5 on Thursday to complete a sweep of the four-game series in Pittsburgh. It was Wetherholt's seventh homer of the season and extended his streak with at least one extra-base hit to six consecutive games.

After their four-run outburst in the ninth inning of the opening game on Monday night snapped a streak of 36 consecutive scoreless innings at PNC Park, the Cardinals scored 30 runs in a span of 28 innings.

The Cardinals finished April with an 18-13 record, their best mark after the first month of the season since they went 19-10 in 2019 en route to a 91-win season.

Matthew Liberatore will get the start tonight when the Cardinals return home to open a three-game series against the Dodgers.
