Game Report: Blues 5, Penguins 1

After losing three consecutive games, the Blues needed a bounce-back effort on Saturday and they got just that from rookie goalie Jordan Binnington.

Binnington made 40 saves as the Blues beat the Penguins in Pittsburgh, moving back ahead of Dallas into third place in the Central Division.

Vince Dunn scored two goals and Pat Maroon added a goal and an assist as the Blues offense got back on track after being shut out in Ottawa on Thursday night.

Dunn’s first goal followed a goal by Oskar Sundqvist and gave the Blues a 2-0 lead after the first period. They quickly increased the lead to 4-0 on goals from Maroon and Jay Bouwmeester just 1:10 apart in the first 2:41 of the second period.

Dunn added his second goal off a power play in the third period.

The win was the 17th for Binnington in his first 22 career games.

Looking ahead: The Blues wrap up their three-game road trip on Sunday in Buffalo, the first trip there for longtime Sabres center Ryan O’Reilly since he was traded to the Blues last summer.
