Game Report: Blues 5, Oilers 2

The Blues won their sixth consecutive game on Wednesday night, and found a way to do it without the game going to overtime.

The previous three wins by the Blues all had come in the extra period, and the Blues carried a 3-2 lead into the closing minutes against the Oilers in Edmonton but used two empty-net goals in the final minute of the third period to put the game away.

Tyler Bozak and Ivan Barbishev got the last two goals as the Blues won for the eighth time in their last nine games.

Second-period goals from Alex Pietrangelo and Robert Thomas had given the Blues a 3-1 lead before the Oilers scored early in the third period to cut the lead to 3-2. Jaden Schwartz scored the first goal for the Blues in the first period.

Jake Allen got the win in goal, stopping 32 of 34 Edmonton shots.

Alexander Steen left the game in the second period because of a lower-body injury and did not return.

After the game the Blues announced that they had traded forward Robby Fabbri to the Detroit Red Wings for forward Jacob de la Rose.

Looking ahead: The Blues will complete their road trip on Saturday night in Calgary.
