Game Report: Avalanche 2, Blues 1

The Blues returned to play with a heart-breaking, last-second loss to the Colorado Avalanche Sunday night in the first of their three round-robin games that will determing the top four seeds for the first round of the playoffs at the NHL hub in Edmonton.

Nazem Kadri scored a power-play goal with one-tenth of a second left in the game to give the Avalanche the win. The goal was reviewed for several minutes before it was allowed to stand.

The shot came on the rebound of a shot off the post as the Avalanche pounded goalie Jordan Binnington after going on the power play with 1:17 to play because of a hooking penalty called on Alexander Steen.

The Avalanche had tied the game early in the third period after Binnington had protected a 1-0 lead since the first period, despite the Blues being out-shot 16-4 in the opening period.

David Perron scored the only goal for the Blues, on a power-play, late in the first period.

The Blues’ remaining games in the qualifying  round-robin round will be on Thursday against the Vegas Golden Knights and next Sunday against the Dallas Stars.
