The second game for Eli Drinkwitz as the head coach of the Missouri Tigers on Saturday looked a lot like his first game.
The Tigers fell behind early, failed to score a touchdown in the first half and lost 35-12 at Tennessee after losing 38-19 to Alabama a week ago.
Trailing 28-6 in the third quarter, a 1-yard touchdown run by Larry Rountree III cut the deficit to 28-12 and after stopping the Volunteers on their next possession, the Tigers had a chance to make it a one-score game and had reached the Tennessee 27 early in the fourth quarter when Connor Bazelak threw an interception.
Tennesse then drove for the clinching touchdown that dropped the Tigers to 0-2.
Bazelak replaced starter Shaun Robinson after the Tigers gained only 13 yards of offense on their first two possessions. Bazelak completed 13 of 21 passes foe 218 yards. Rountree rushed for 84 yards on 19 carries, including Missouri’s only touchdown.
The SEC-only schedule this season does not get any easier for Missouri, which will face LSU next Saturday in Baton Rouge.
