Tuesday’s Game Report: Giants 10, Cardinals 3

The night started poorly for the Cardinals and never got any better.
An error on the first play of the game, followed by a long home run and a catcher’s interference call, led to a three-run inning that set the tone for the rest of the game as the Giants pounded the Cardinals at Busch Stadium.
A four-run third inning off Andre Pallante increased the lead to 7-1 as the Giants were able to snap a streak of nine consecutive games against the Cardinals decided by one run.
With several relievers unavailable, Pallante had to work through the fifth inning and allowed eight runs, equaling the most he has allowed in a start in his career.
The first-inning homer by Bryce Eldridge went over the Cardinals’ bullpen and was measured at 461 feet, the longest at Busch Stadium this season.
The Cardinals have 10 games left in the season.
Here is how Tuesday night’s game broke down:
At the plate: One of the Cardinals’ runs came on a home run in the first inning by Alec Burleson, his 23rd of the season and his MLB-leading 111th RBI … A sacrifice fly from Ivan Herrera drove in the second run and Jose Fermin doubled and scored on a single by Nolan Gorman … The Giants retired 13 batters in row from the third to the seventh innings.
On the mound: Pallante allowed eight hits and walked two. He had only allowed more than five runs in two of his first 26 starts this season … Brycen Mautz gave up one run and the final San Francisco run scored against Cade Winquest.
Key stat: Herrera is hitless in 16 at-bats in the first five games of this homestand.
Worth noting: Jesus Baez, who hit 39 home runs in the regular season, hit a walk-off two-run homer for Springfield on Tuesday night in the first game of the Texas League playoff series against Tulsa … The rosters for the Arizona Fall League were announced on Tuesday. Leading the Cardinals contingent will be lefthanded pitcher Brandon Clarke, who missed much of this season while recovering from surgery, and righthander Tekoah Roby, who missed the regular season while recovering from Tommy John surgery. Also representing the Cardinals will be outfielder Tai Peete, lefthander Michael Watson, righthanders Nate Dohm and Frank Elissalt, catcher-first baseman Sammy Hernandez and infielder Cade McGee.
Up next: Michael Liberatore will get the start on Wednesday in the final game of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 12:15 p.m.
