Game Report: Blues 3, Avalanche 2 (overtime)
Colton Parayko has had a rough start to the season, but the Blues’ defenseman finally had a moment to enjoy on Friday night.
Parayko scored on a one-handed goal 1:34 into overtime to give the Blues the win over the Avalanche in Denver, only their second victory in their last seven games and their first win this season in a game decided by one goal.
The Blues had a fast start to the game, taking a 2-0 lead in the first period on a goal from Vladimir Tarasenko and a power-play goal by Alexander Steen. Steen, however, suffered an elbow to the head later in the game and did not return.
Former Blues’ defenseman Erik Johnson was assessed a five-minute major penalty and a game misconduct for the hit.
After Colorado cut the lead to 2-1, the Blues had a chance to increase the lead when Oskar Sundqvist was awarded a penalty shot following a hooking call while he was on a breakaway, but he failed to score.
The Avalanche tied the game 2:13 into the third period with a power-play goal.
Looking ahead: The Blues conclude their road trip on Saturday night in Arizona.
