Game Report: Blues 4, Bluejackets 2

The long stretch without a game for the Blues did not slow down the hot start to Jordan Binnington’s NHL career.

Playing their first game in 10 days because of the All-Star break and then their bye week, the Blues got another solid game from Binnington in goal Saturday night in their win over the Bluejackets in Columbus.

The Blues built a 2-0 lead on first-period goals from Ryan O’Reilly, his 19th of the season, and Carl Gunnarsson and Binnington protected that lead into the third period.

A Columbus goal cut the lead to 2-1 but Vladimir Tarasenko responded 34 seconds later with his 18th of the year to restore the two-goal advantage. After pulling their goalie for an extra attacker, the Bluejackets cut the lead to 3-2 before Oskar Sundqvist scored into an empty net.

Binnington stopped 18 of 20 shots as he was in goal for the eighth time in the Blues’ last 11 games.

Tarasenko assisted on the Blues’ first two goals to give him a three-point night while Brayden Schenn also finished with three points, all coming on assists.

The win gave the Blues a 6-2-1 record in their last nine games.

Looking ahead: The Blues will stay on the road for two games in Florida next week, playing the Panthers on Tuesday night and then heading to Tampa to play the Lightning on Thursday night.
