Yadier Molina got a title on Wednesday for his new role with the Cardinals for next season, being named a special assistant to John Mozeliak, the team's president of baseball operations. A team press release said Molina would work with both the major-league and minor-league teams.

In the Rule 5 draft at the winter meetings, the Cardinals selected Ryan Fernandez, a right-handed relief pitcher out of the Red Sox' organization.
