LEADOFF QUICK HITTERS

THURSDAY, SEPT. 3, 2026

Thomas Saggese hit his third homer in two games and his infield single drove in the first of three runs in the 10th inning that gave the Cardinals an 8-6 win over the Dodgers on Wednesday night in Los Angeles. Leo Bernal also homered, the first of his career, and has driven in two runs in each of his first two games.

The Cardinals used eight pitchers in the bullpen game to get their second win in a row in the series, holding the Dodgers to just one hit in 18 at-bats with a runner in scoring position. That hit was a three-run homer by Freddie Freeman off Brycen Mautz in the first inning.

Quinn Mathews will get the start tonight as the Cardinals try to complete a sweep of the three-game series. Tarik Skubal is scheduled to start for the Dodgers.
